What does the DNA of Jesus Christ Look Like? James Cameron Knows….
James Cameron, American film director, and Canadian Jewish archaeologist and documentarian Simcha Jacobovich claim they have uncovered histories greatest enigma. They have the DNA of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. They also state they have discovered the entire family of Jesus of Nazareth. “It doesn’t get bigger than this,” Cameron has proclaimed. “We’ve done our homework; we’ve made the case; and now its time for the debate to begin.” This is bigger than finding The Holy Grail. Anthropologists are treating Cameron like a third rate producer and director of Hollywood fictional movies. It’s a nice script they state, but there is no authenticity to anything he says.
Scholars know that from 30 BC to 70 AD people in Jerusalem would first wrap bodies in shrouds after death. The bodies were then placed in carved rock tombs where they decomposed for a year after which the bones were placed in an ossuary (limestone box) and that is where Cameron says he got the DNA of Jesus and Mary Magdalene.
There is a problem here though. The fact is, Cameron has not done his homework and has no case. So sure were they of their facts, they held a press conference in New York City at the Public Library where the ossuaries of Jesus and Mary Magdalene were displayed. ‘The Lost Tomb of Jesus,’ a 90 minute documentary made by Cameron and Jacobovich will soon be aired on the Discovery Channel. It stinks of Hollywood.
If this is the biggest revelation since time began why is the reaction so subdued? Because expert archeologists around the world have stated that Cameron and company are doing this to sell their documentary.
In 1980, during a salvage dig in the Armon Hanatziv area, in a place called Talpiot, in Southern Jerusalem, a burial chamber was discovered by construction workers. Amos Kloner, respected archaeologist from Israel was called in. He was the first to examine the site. Ten ossuaries confronted him. They were taken to the Israel Antiquities Authority in Beit Shemesh. Kloner and other archeologists examined the Aramaic inscriptions and the bones they contained for years. The ossuaries, they stated were authentic. They did belong to the time frame when Jesus Christ died. But that was all they said and confirmed. The names on the ossuaries read.
Yeshua bar Yosef: (Jesus, son of Joseph.)
Mariamene e mara: (Mary Magdalene.)
Yehuda bar Yeshua: (Judah son of Jesus).
Maria: (Mary, mother of Jesus).
Yose: (Joseph, father of Jesus)
Yaakor bar Yosef a Khuid Yeshua: (James, son of Joseph, brother of Jesus).
Matia: (Matthew, an apostle of Jesus)
For lay people, this would seem like the mother lode of all archeological discoveries. A finding that would have made the discovery of The Holy Grail pale in comparison. Although the names, on the surface, appeared to be linked to the Biblical Jesus of Nazareth, the anthropologists were not impressed. They had seen these name clusters in other excavations. These were common names at that time. The experts also argued that the family of Jesus, who hailed from Nazareth, would never have journeyed to Jerusalem to have their family plot. They would have done so in Nazareth. Paying homage to the dead is important for the Jews. Jerusalem is a long way from Nazareth. Public transport was virtually non existent and Jerusalem was considered “too Roman” for the Jews anyway. The Jews of those times were fiercely territorial. Jesus was often referred to as ‘The Nazarene.” They would have interred the bones of their loved ones in Nazareth, not Jerusalem that is what the experts say. So after the usual cataloging, as per Jewish religious custom the authorities buried all the bones in a common cemetery designated for archeological remains. The empty ossuaries were then stored in a warehouse.
In 1996, the BBC made a film that declared that these boxes just might have contained the remains of “That Family from Nazareth.” And of course now, Cameron and company have resurrected the story during the season of Lent. At a press conference they said that DNA (deoxyribo nucleic acid) tests were done on residue left inside The Jesus and Mary Magdalene ossuaries. No match. The assumption made by Cameron and company is, they were not related so they must be husband and wife. This is corny, even by Hollywood standards.
One has to ask the questions here. If even for a second, the archeologists in Israel thought that there might be a remote possibility that the ossuary was that of Jesus Christ, would they have given it to James Cameron to ferry all the way to New York for a press conference at the New York Public Library? Would it have been stored in a warehouse all these years? If these ossuaries once held the bones of Jesus Christ, and the rest of his family, the Israelis themselves would have run DNA tests before they disposed off the bones. You can bet your ticket to Paradise that MOSSAD already did that and that is the prime reason why the Israelis are so sure these ossuaries are not the ones of the Biblical Jesus and his family. The Israelis are extremely thorough when it comes to artifacts. On a find as big as this, the Kenneset and Secret Service would have definitely been involved. A positive identification would mean religious and historical ramifications and trillions of dollars in revenue. And as history has taught us; the Jews do not treat history lightly and are not stupid when it comes to matters that relate to finance.
What Cameron needed to do and should have done before his press conference was run DNA tests on Mary (mother of Jesus) and Jesus, another test should have been conducted between Jesus and Judah (son of Jesus). DNA is the best comparative genetic science known to modern man, a match there would have confirmed parts of the story. Since they have the DNA of Jesus, they could have also compared it with blood stains on the Shroud of Turin, which many believe is the cloth that covered the dead body of Jesus as he lay in his tomb. Run another DNA test. See if it turns up a positive match. It would have calmed the skeptics. That is one of the many reasons why archeologists remain skeptical. Why these tests have not been performed only reinforces the fact that Cameron is using the story to hype his documentary. And they are right. Cameron needs to play rabble rouser so that his film get’s its due publicity. After the box office receipts have been counted, he will return the Jesus box to the warehouse in Israel. The Christians will calm down and it will be time for another movie. Cameron cannot afford to run the appropriate tests anyway.
If for example, the DNA of Jesus did not match that of Mary his mother or Judah his son that would be the end of Cameron’s four million dollar documentary. And assuming that the “Find” is for real as Cameron believes, religious authorities in Israel can be persuaded to identify the site where the bones are buried. And then, proper DNA testing can be done. But knowing the Israelis, one can assume that they have already run all the tests needed for identification, when they still had the bones. They must be laughing at Cameron and company right now. In Jerusalem they must be saying, “Cameron is meshuggenah.” It is a Jewish word that will hopefully explain how Cameron and company are perceived.
Meshuggenah:
Pronounced, meh-SHOOG-eh-nah
When you call someone a meshuggenah, you’re saying he/she’s beyond stupid.
